Geta Grama - Quiltul preferat

Geta Grama and the Favorite Quilt

http://www.jinnybeyer.com/

It’s amazing how things can change our life.
5 years ago I discovered the world “quilt” on the Internet. The first site I found was that of the famous American artist Jinny Beyer
www.JinnyBeyer.com .
Her logo quilt amazed me (see the picture below). The colors and shapes revealed me a world that I have never imagined it could exist, especially when I realized that all that artwork was made from fabrics.

In acel moment, m-am indragostit de quilting. Am cautat cu disperare prin magazine unelte si materiale., lucruri uzuale in strainatate, dar absolut inexistente in Romania, care sa ma ajute sa patrund in acea lume. Foarte dezamagita, mi-am spus: “Pentru moment, asta e !”, dar am continuat sa caut pe Internet. Si am devenit “dependenta” de quilting.

In that moment I fell in love with quilting. I desperately searched for tools and fabrics for quilting in our shops, actually common tools abroad, but I could not find any in Romania. Very disappointed, I told to myself “So much about quilting !”. Still, I kept looking on the Internet. And so I became addicted to quilting.

Since then, a lot of things have changed for me, I learned much about quilting and I even managed to make quilts myself. My life turned on a different road, full of passion for beauty. It is a road that I have never dreamed that I would ever follow. It is a road that I have never imagined that it could bring so much happiness and fulfillment to me. It is not a lonely road, I walk on this road together with my family and my friends, from all over the world, who share the same passion.

Se numeste “Day Lilies”

There have been 5 years since I first saw the Jinny Beyer’s logo quilt. During this time, I saw thousands of quilts on Internet, books and magazines. Incidentally, or maybe not, my favorite quilt was and still is another quilt of Jinny Beyer. It is named “Day Lilies”.

In her book, “Designing tessellations”, there is a large photo of this quilt, too bad you cannot see it.The colors are mixed in a unique style, which makes you recognize a quilt made by Jinny Beyer. Besides, Jinny wrote a book called “Color Confidence for Quilters”, in which she explains her own method of combining the colors.
The special element of this quilt is the “tessellations”, an ingenious method of creating unusual geometric shapes, which can be perfectly combined.
In this quilt, the shape that is repeated is the one of a flower, with such irregular petals that I cannot imagine how Jinny managed to sew the pieces together.

Looking at this quilt, I cannot stop myself from being astonished by the artistic talent and the skills with which the artist combined the colors and created the unusual shapes, in the wonderful “Day Lilies”.
I am sure that this quilt would take the breath away to anyone looking at it. A dream!
